The Canada Caregiver Program is designed to provide foreign workers with the opportunity to work in Canada as caregivers and obtain permanent residency status. Here is a detailed guide to the Canada Caregiver Program service:
Eligibility Criteria:
To be eligible for the Canada Caregiver Program, the applicant must meet the following criteria:
- Have a Valid Job Offer: The applicant must have a valid job offer to work as a caregiver in Canada from a Canadian employer.
- Meet Language Requirements: The applicant must meet the minimum language requirements in either English or French.
- Have at Least One Year of Work Experience: The applicant must have at least one year of full-time work experience as a caregiver, either in Canada or abroad, within the last three years.
- Have the Necessary Education: The applicant must have completed the equivalent of a Canadian secondary school education.
- Meet Health and Security Requirements: The applicant must undergo a medical examination and provide police certificates to show that they do not have a criminal record.
Application Process:
- Apply for a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA): The Canadian employer must apply for an LMIA from the Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) to demonstrate that there is a need for a foreign worker to fill the caregiver position.
- Apply For a Work Permit: Once the LMIA is approved, the caregiver can apply for a work permit from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). The work permit application must include a copy of the LMIA.
- Work in Canada as a Caregiver: Once the work permit is granted, the caregiver can work in Canada as a caregiver for up to two years.
- Apply for Permanent Residency: After completing at least two years of work as a caregiver in Canada, the caregiver can apply for permanent residency under one of the following programs: the Caring for Children Program or the Caring for People with High Medical Needs Program.
- Processing Time: The processing time for LMIA applications, work permit applications, and permanent residency applications can vary depending on the location and type of application.
It is important to note that the Canada Caregiver Program has undergone several changes in recent years, and caregivers and employers should check the current program requirements before applying.
